Have you visited babyphotographers.com yet?  It’s a new website with listings of some fabulous baby photographer’s around the country.  They also have been posting some great, informational articles that I thought would be helpful to anyone that might be looking for a baby photographer (or just a family photographer in general too!)

This article is about how to choose the right baby photographer for you.  I can’t stress how important it is that you find a photographer that you *click* with and that shares your same goals not only budget-wise, but in personality and style as well.  I love forming long lasting relationships with my clients and find that it’s most beneficial for everyone involved when we work well, and easily together.  I strive to provide top notch customer service and bend over backwards for all of my clients to give them an experience that they will never forget and will always remember when enjoying their family’s custom portraits.

I hope that this article helps you to know what to look for when searching for a photographer for your family and that you are able to find a great one to work with for many years to come!

What is your style? What do you like? Choosing a baby photographer is a big decision and can involve a significant investment. Here are a few tips to ensure you are satisfied and happy with the end result:

Decide Your Budget Range and Style

The first step in choosing a baby photographer is to decide on a style preference.  Do you prefer a modern look, a classic look, outdoors, indoors, colorful or black and white?  Many photographers have a distinct look, and you may want to consider if their style suits your home décor.  Additionally, prices will vary according to which photographer you choose.  Lower priced photographers will allow you to purchase more prints, while higher-end photographers provide added services such as helping you design custom artwork for your home.  So keep your style preference and budget at the top of your mind, as feeling confident about these two factors will help you be more efficient in your search for the perfect photographer.

Research Baby Photographers Online

The second step in choosing a baby photographer is to browse the websites of photographers in your area.  Make a list of a few artists who are compatible with your style and your budget. As a general rule, photographers will most often display their best photos online to attract potential clients. If you don’t like what you see on the website, chances are high that you might not like their work in person.

Call Your Baby Photographer Choices and Narrow the List

Once you have a list of your top choices, call the photographers to determine if you “click” with them on a personal level.  After all, this person will play an integral role in documenting your family history, so you want to ensure you like them.  Be open and communicative about your wishes, needs and budget ideas.  Get a “feel” for the energy, the setting and the photographer’s ideas, take your time and make the right decision.

Know Your Photography Goals

A reputable and professional baby photographer will try and determine your goals and needs to ensure they provide you with the best possible service.  Questions you may want to be able to answer include:

  • Are you looking for custom wall art or something smaller to document this particular time?  This answer can play a major factor in your choice as you might invest in a higher-end photographer for your wall art and try various styles for your smaller prints.
  • What is your priority and main goal of booking this session?
  • Will this photo begin or follow an established family tradition? If it follows a family tradition, ensure you explain your needs fully or provide visual examples.

Remember, establishing a relationship and communicating your goals is the best step to success in hiring the ideal baby photographer for you. Follow these simple rules and you will be on your way to displaying a gorgeous new portrait of your child in your home.

I was SO excited when this cutie’s mom contacted me about doing a session with them.  His mom and I go way back to our high school cheer-leading days and it was wonderful to see her again and to meet her absolutely charming little guy.  We had a great time taking some indoor shots and fortunately the weather was relatively decent for a March spring day in Minnesota, so we headed down the street to get some shots at the park.  I just love all of the different expressions he had.  He’s just got the sweetest disposition!

A & J, thank you for hanging out with me for a bit and making me laugh.  I had a wonderful time seeing and working with you guys.  I hope you enjoy these shots from your sneak peek!

Miss {G} and her family came over for her big one year session last weekend.  They were such a sweet and adorable family!  She was a busy little bee exploring all over the place and playing with her little pearl necklace we put on her.  She also had the most gorgeous blue eyes.  I think I’ve mentioned this before, but I especially love when I get to photograph little blue eyed babes since my kids have such dark eyes (thanks, hubby!).  I just love the way they look in the light and really grab your attention.

W Family, thank you so much for choosing me to capture your family and your adorable little girl.  It was wonderful meeting you guys and getting to know you!  I hope you enjoy your sneak peek!

We’ve been SUPER busy at our household moving into a new house, so I apologize for the lack of blog posts lately.  I’ve got a TON of fun sessions lined up for March and I can’t wait to share the images from those.  But in the meantime, I thought it would be fun to hold another contest to spice up the action on the blog!  This is our biggest contest EVER and our first Cutest Baby & Child Contest!!

So, start sending your photos!  I can’t wait to see all of your adorable little ones faces!

I’m sure I’m not the only one that is SO sick of Winter already.  It’s always this time of year that I think we all start getting spring fever!  Warmer days (aka – 40 degrees!) begin to appear and the snow slowly starts to melt.  It won’t be long before those little crocus flowers are peeking through the last little bit of snow.

March is already upon us and with that, our calendar has been filling up quickly with Spring sessions!  So, if you are hoping to get a session scheduled in the next couple of months, you’ll want to act quickly!  We only have one opening left in March and two openings left in April!  We’re also taking bookings in May and June now as well.

Worried about the weather?  No reason to worry now as we now have indoor, natural light studio space at my home in Rosemount.  Of course, we will prefer to stay on location for most of our sessons, but it’s a nice alternative in case the weather is an issue.

Of course since no post is complete without a photo, here’s a recent one of some snowflakes that were on my car window one morning. :-)

What to Wear 012020101 What to Wear | Urban Family PhotographyIt’s time for another addition of What to Wear!  I figured these would be a good way to fill in the gaps during the slow season of sessions.  And besides, this is sort of like shopping for me too, and I can’t say No to that!

I’m working on a “wintry” theme one, but this one would be great for fall photos or even those late winter photos when it’s not quite “spring” yet, but more of an early spring.  I love combining blue and orange and these outfits bring out some great combinations of those colors.  All of these outfits can be found at Old Navy.

I try not to post too many photos of my kids on here, I leave those to our family blog.  But, I just couldn’t resist sharing our Christmas card photo with you all.  These two are the reason that I fell in love with photography and they are the ones that drive me to get better and better and to do what I love.

So, from our family to yours, we wish you all a very Merry Christmas!  Thank you for a WONDERFUL first year for Ten Tiny Toes Photography and I know 2010 will be even better!  We hope that your family and friends have a wonderful holiday season!

This little guy melted my heart from the moment I met him.  He was full of smiles and laughter and was such a joy to work with and had THE most gorgeous blue eyes!  Even though it was a bit chilly out, we had a great time hanging out indoors to get some fun shots of Mr. {K} and mom and dad.  We did manage to get a few shots outdoors before we got too chilled though (thanks for tolerating it, guys!).

6 months is one of my favorite ages to photograph.  {K} was so fully of energy and was anxious get moving and crawling and even showed me some of his Yoga poses!

P Family, I had such a wonderful time meeting you guys and photographing your adorable family.  Thank you for welcoming me into your home to capture your memories.  I hope you enjoy your sneak peek!
